Ethan Gelber

Ethan Gelber is GORP's roving international correspondent and former Chain Gang Expert Cyclist. In his 20-some years of cycling, Ethan has pedaled more miles than he can calculate on the roads of 40 countries in four continents.

In 1988 he helped bring Blue Marble Travel, a Paris-based bicycle tourism company, up to speed, staying in the saddle for six years as a manager and guide. He returned to the U.S. for a stint as a high-school teacher, a playwright, and a graduate student, after which he founded and remains Executive Director of BikeAbout, a non-profit specializing in live educational Internet adventures that promote peace and cooperative understanding through cycling and the improved use of technology in learning.

Ethan has written extensively about cycling, primarily through his experience with Blue Marble and BikeAbout. BikeAboutthe Mediterranean was the organization's award-winning inaugural project; this multimedia educational/cultural travel log marked the first"wired" circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea by bicycle. Plans for future trips are underway.
