Meet the Big Riders
Daniel Edwards
By Daniel Edwards, Big Ride rider #2172

In July of 1999, I lost my father to a stroke. One week later, my neighbor and good friend, Kevin Barrar, was diagnosed with lung cancer. I decided soon after that life could change too quickly, and that passing up on dreams could mean never realizing them at all.

Inspire a Big Rider

The Big Ride cyclists are pouring energy into a ride benefiting those unable to do it themselves. Let them know that you appreciate them.

For several years, I had contemplated undertaking a challenge like the Big Ride. Unfortunately, family and work commitments always made this impossible. I have cycled since I was a child, and grown into running marathons (six so far, including two in Boston), biathlons, triathlons, and biking time trials. I currently ride with Richbrau, a cycling team in Richmond, Virginia.

In January of 2000, motivated by the recent events and in support of Kevin, I finally committed to riding in the Big Ride. I dedicated my fundraising effort to Kevin, and succeeded in bringing together $8779, including $1000 from DuPont, where I work as a project leader. They also contributed CoolMax clothing and Kevlar tires, both DuPont products.

Born in Texas, I currently live in Midlothian, Virginia. I am enjoying my time off from work and finally fulfilling a dream by supporting a great charity.
