About a month back, the Nuun folks paired up with acclaimed mixologist Dushan Zaric (from NYC’s speakeasy Employees Only) to concoct cocktails with Nuun integrated into the simple syrup. Below, the recipes—a novel twist on Nuun’s hydration properties…
Nuun Simple Syrup Preparation
Yields ½ quart
Dissolve 1 pill of any Nuun flavor into 8 ounces of Water. When completely dissolved mix the Nuun water with 2 cups of sugar. Stir until all sugar is dissolved.
Whiskey Sour
2 ounces of Bourbon
¾ ounce freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
¾ ounce Lemon Tea Nuun Simple Syrup
1 orange flag, for garnish (orange half wheel and a brandied cherry on a spit)

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass. Add large, cold ice and shake briefly but with conviction. Strain into a rocks glass over ice and garnish with an Orange Flag.
Rum Punch # 2
1½ ounces light rum (molasses based not agricole)
1 ounce pineapple juice
½ ounce freshly squeezed Lime Juice
¾ ounce Fruit Punch Nuun Simple Syrup
1 pineapple wedge, for garnish

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass. Add large, cold ice and shake briefly but with conviction. Strain into a rocks glass over ice and garnish with a pineapple wedge.
Tri-Berry Mojito
1¾ ounces light rum
¾ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
¾ ounces Tri-Berry Nuun Simple Syrup
1 whole strawberry
3 pinches of fresh mint leaves
1 ounce club soda

Muddle the strawberry in the bottom of a Collins glass until it turns into a fine paste. Add the mint and tap it lightly with the muddler to release the fragrance. Add Tri-Berry Nuun Simple Syrup, lime juice and rum. Fill with ice and shake briefly. Top of with club soda.
French 75
1½ ounces London Dry-style gin
¾ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
3/4 Strawberry Lemonade Nuun Simple Syrup
2 ounces dry Prosecco

Pour all ingredients except Prosecco into a mixing glass. Add large cold ice and shake vigorously. Pour Prosecco into a champagne flute over ice and strain the cocktail over it.
Pisco Sour
2 ounces Pisco Quebranta brandy
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 ounce Grape Nuun Simple Syrup
1 egg white
3 drops Angostura bitters, for garnish
1 whole nutmeg, for garnish

Pour ingredients into a mixing glass. Close the shaker and shake very hard without ice for a few seconds. Add large cold ice and shake vigorously up to 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with three drops of Angostura bitters and freshly ground nutmeg.
West Side
2 ounces vodka
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
¾ ounce Lemon-Lime Nuun Simple Syrup
3 finger pinch fresh mint
1 splash club soda

Pour all ingredients except club soda into a mixing glass. Add large cold ice and shake vigorously. Open the shaker and add a splash of club soda. Use a julep strainer to strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
