North America's Top 100 Family Resorts
The Westin and Sheraton at Our Lucaya, Grand Bahama Island
Caribbean's Best Family Resorts

By Candyce H. Stapen

Atlantis Resort | The Westin and Sheraton at Our Lucaya | Club Med Punta Cana | Beaches Negril | Westin St. John | Four Seasons Nevis | Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman

The Spread:
The Westin and the Sheraton, offering a combined 1,212 rooms, share a 377-acre oceanfront property on Grand Bahama Island, whose beachfront served as the backdrop for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie sequels. Having two resorts on one site means that visitors may enjoy the same facilities—pools, powdery beaches, two golf courses, tennis courts, more than a dozen restaurants, the kids’ program, plus the adult-oriented Senses Spa and Isle of Capri Casino—whether they choose the plusher Westin accommodations or bed down in the comfortable and cost-effective rooms at the Sheraton. While on the island, take the time to learn about and interact with the dolphins at UNEXSO Grand Bahama and to swim and picnic at beautiful Gold Rock Beach in Lucayan National Park.

Why Families Love It:
Book It Here!
Book your family vacation to The Westin and Sheraton at Our Lucaya here.
There’s no shortage of play space at this enormous property. Along with ocean swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and sailing, you and your children have a choice of four seaside pools in which to splash—Sugar Mill is the one with the waterfalls and slide. Camp Lucaya, for ages three to 12, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (full- and half-day programs), plus has evening activities Thursday through Sunday during peak holiday seasons from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There is no extra charge for the camp as the fee is included in the resort fee ($4 per person per day). Along with beach Olympics, pool swims, and tennis tournaments, the camp incorporates bits of Bahamian culture into their daily activities. Kids craft Junkanoo masks, learn straw weaving, listen to stories about the Lucayan Indians, and discover rake-n-scrape local music.

Infants to tots under three years old are cared for at Grandma Lucaya’s nursery, open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; however, little ones may only stay for up to two hours per day, for $10 per hour.

Special Events & Activities:
Sign up for pool volleyball, nature walks, kayak races, and coconut bowling games.
