Like most Ritz-Carlton properties, this one delivers a typical décor of Federal-style furnishings and Oriental rugs, plus pampering service. Childproofing is available free for families with kids ages five and younger. All 450 rooms have Gulf or coastal views, and suites have private balconies with views of the Gulf. Some also overlook the free-form pool and outdoor café. Parents can reward themselves at the full-service spa or take the shuttle to sister property Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort for a round of 18 holes.

Why Families Love It:
Ritz Kids Day Camp takes children ages five to 12 to the beach, in the pool, and on nature adventures for full or half days, lunch included ($65 or $40, respectively). They also accept kids by the hour between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a fee of $15 an hour. On weekends, Kids Night Out treats ages five to 12 to dinner, movies, and arts and crafts from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for $50.

The resort offers a craft project each day, popular with families, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cost varies according to supplies needed. Also, Peter Rabbit Tea (little girls love this) takes place daily from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and costs $8.25 per child ages six to 12.

Special Activities & Events:
With its flair for social niceties, the Ritz introduces little ones to life's pleasures with such special activities such as The Naturally Nutritious Spa Cooking Class ($45), an interactive class discussion with a multi-course lunch and recipes that guests can recreate at home. Another monthly class teaches kids good manners; it includes a four-course meal for $48.
