The Saddlebrook Resort, about 30 minutes from Tampa off exit 279, is a sports-minded property. Despite its size—480 acres—the resort is well-planned and easy to navigate, especially for families. Accommodations cluster around the half-million-gallon Superpool in the heart of the resort, where families congregate and the S'Kids Club meets. Each of the 800 guestrooms and one- and two-bedroom suites come with ultra-soft "Beds from Paradise," marble baths, and designer furnishings. The suite bonus: a full kitchen.

To reach the Sports Village, follow the winding walkway through the cypress dome rookery situated at the edge of one of the resort's two 18-hole golf courses. The Village features a fitness center, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and a sports field. Young athletes at the Saddlebrook Prep School share the facilities.

Why Families Love It:
Room rates include breakfast and dinner and the resort offers dozens of packages. Restaurants circle the pool and a compact but competent spa is steps away, though is well sequestered from the bustle.

While parents are relaxing in the spa or playing on the golf courses and tennis courts, the S'Kids Club offers fun and engaging supervised activities for young 'uns ages four to 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-days, morning or afternoon, cost $20; full days, $40. Optional lunch is $5. Multi-day packages are also available. Reservations a day in advance are recommended.

Special Activities & Events:
For aspiring Serena Williams types, Junior Tennis Camp provides intensive five-day training for kids ages 18 and under. Rates from $1,127 to $1,196 include six nights of supervised accommodations, meals, tournament play, and more. For Tiger Woods wannabes, similar five-day Junior Golf Camp runs from $1,165 to $1,465. Daily instruction and other packages are also available for all ages.
