CAMPGROUND NAME: Steer Creek VISIT DATE: 06/20/1997 UPDATE DATE: 4/25/2002 STATE: Nebraska REGION: Rocky Mountain RANGER DISTRICT: Bessey NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Cody RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: In Cody, NE, take US Rt. 20 west 7.1 miles to Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest sign in Nenzel, NE (State Rt. 16F Spur). Turn right onto Rt. 16F and go 18.4 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground. NOTE: There are no groceries or gas in Nenzel. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 3,180 ft. The campground is situated in a man-made forest of pines. It is surrounded by Nebraska's sandhills and has got to be the state's best kept secret. Except for the singing of birds, occasional lowing of cattle and gentle breezes whistling through the pines, the campground is serene and soooo peaceful. Care of the campground is obviously a labor of love even to the point of providing free firewood. Although dry camping, the campground is suited for either the tenter or RVr.
