Top Rides in Southeast FloridaQuiet Waters Park Practicalities
Length/configuration: 5.5-mile loop Aerobic difficulty: Moderate; some short, steep, abrupt hills. Technical difficulty: Moderate to challenging; single-track sections can be narrow and have roots, rocks, and some big hills (one 10-foot drop). Scenery: Boat rental area, cable-skiing area, water amusement park. Special comments: Small park-entrance fee. General location: Quiet Waters Park is located in Broward County, Pompano Beach, Florida. Elevation change: There is no extended change in elevation, but be prepared for some climbs that exceed 10 feet over a short span. Cheat chutes exist for those who prefer to ride more typical Floridian terrain. Season: This appears to be an all-season trail, although the wetter months will put sections of this trail under water or make them extremely soggy. Services: Quiet Waters Park has many of the modern conveniences you would expect from a facility offering day activities like tent camping, fishing, picnicking, and a children's water park. Pompano Beach—just outside the gate—offers whatever else you might need. Hazards: While many of the hazards I experienced on my pre-official ride have been taken care of, you can still expect to be challenged by exposed roots and rocks and some steeper sections requiring nerves of cro-moly. Rescue index: You should not have to make any extended plans for an elaborate rescue here at Quiet Waters; however, if you bust your collarbone coming off the 10-foot drop, every minute will seem like a painful eternity. Land status: This land is managed by the Broward County government. Maps: The front office has a map showing all the major attractions inside Quiet Waters Park.
