Nancy,
I have a Garmin Map 60 CSX that is VERY dependable, precise, and always with me on any hike. It is a discontinued model, having been replaced with the new "62" series. Go to Garmin's website and click on "On the Trail", then "Mapping Handhelds". They even allow you to compare the features of the models with a "compare" feature. You can't go wrong with a Garmin GPSMAP 62 (comes in a few versions depending upon which maps/topo are included and a few extra features).
